📊Fantasy Overview

GW1 hosts Liverpool on Sunday. Elanga or Barnes at £6.0m plus a £5.0m defender (Livramento or Hall) is the Newcastle route. Skip the rotating strikers until team news. Predicted XI is on the lineup page. Open predicted XI →

Newcastle's squad this season is uniquely flat — not one player priced above £6.0m, after losing Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal, Alexander Isak to Liverpool, plus Kieran Trippier, Sandro Tonali and Miguel Almirón besides. The attack splits three ways between Wissa, Osula and Woltemade (all £6.0m) for the striker role, with Elanga, Barnes and Murphy (also £6.0m) and Touré (£5.8m) spread across wide midfield. Pope at £4.9m is the dependable goalkeeper, and the defence — Botman, Livramento, Hall, Schär, Thiaw and Burn, every one of them at £5.0m — is as uniformly priced as it is well-organised. Amar Dedić has joined as further right-back cover.

🔁2026/27 Transfers That Change Your Picks

  • ↑ OUTBruno Guimarães, To Arsenal. The club's standout premium asset and midfield anchor. His departure fundamentally changes Newcastle's fantasy profile for 2026/27.
  • ↑ OUTAlexander Isak, To Liverpool. Was Newcastle's most reliable goal source. Now returns to St James' Park as a Liverpool player in GW1.
  • ↑ OUTKieran Trippier, Departed. The right-back who provided assists and set-piece goals is gone, leaving the defence without an obvious attacking outlet.
  • ↑ OUTSandro Tonali, To Tottenham Hotspur. Leaves after one full, productive season at St James' Park.
  • ↓ INAmar Dedić, New signing. Right-back who adds further defensive cover to a back line already stocked with Livramento, Hall, Schär, Thiaw and Burn at £5.0m.

Premium Picks

There's no real premium asset here this season — £6.0m is the hard ceiling. Elanga, Barnes and Murphy are the closest thing to it, with Elanga and Barnes the two standouts for direct goal threat. Wissa is the most convincing of the three striker options once he actually wins the starting shirt. Miley and Joelinton at £5.4m are the slightly cheaper midfield alternatives, with defensive contribution points as a bonus.

💷Budget Enablers

This is the most uniformly priced defence in the league, and genuinely good value for it. Botman, Livramento, Hall, Schär, Thiaw and Burn all sit at exactly £5.0m behind real defensive organisation, and Pope at £4.9m is a strong budget goalkeeper who racks up save points on top. Livramento and Hall are the two worth targeting for attacking full-back upside. Ramsey and Bamba at £4.9m are the cheapest midfield routes in.

🎽Captaincy Options

Honestly, there's no reliable captaincy option at Newcastle this season. Nothing above £6.0m, and a three-way striker rotation between Wissa, Osula and Woltemade means nobody has the ceiling a doubled score really needs. In an exceptional home fixture, Elanga or Barnes can work as a differential armband if you're chasing rank, but in a normal week I'd put the captaincy somewhere else entirely.

🎯Differential Picks

Elanga and Barnes at £6.0m are the differentials worth knowing — pace, direct threat, real goal potential, all at very low ownership. Touré at £5.8m and Miley and Joelinton at £5.4m are the cheaper creative picks. Ramsey at £4.9m is the late-arriving box-to-box midfielder, underrated by anyone who wasn't already tracking him at Aston Villa.

⚠️Players to Avoid

The striker slot is a genuine three-way rotation between Wissa, Osula and Woltemade — never own more than one, and only once you've confirmed the starting XI. The wide positions are just as congested, with Murphy, Elanga, Barnes and Touré all competing for two berths. I'd avoid stacking Newcastle attackers when fixtures turn difficult, and stay cautious about their record against the top six.

Newcastle United Fantasy Football FAQs

With Bruno Guimarães, Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier all departed, the squad is unusually flat. Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes at £6.0m are the most direct attacking threats from wide. Yoane Wissa (£6.2m) is the striker option when he wins the shirt. Nick Pope at £4.9m is the goalkeeper value, alongside £5.0m defenders Botman, Livramento, Hall, Schär, Thiaw and Burn. Live prices are in the squad table above.

It is a three-way rotation between Yoane Wissa, William Osula and Nick Woltemade, all at £6.0m. Check the two most recent starting lineups before buying any of them. Owning the wrong one is the most common Newcastle mistake this season. Until the position settles, many managers avoid Newcastle forwards entirely.

Yes, and they are unusually consistent in price: Botman, Livramento, Hall, Schär, Thiaw and Burn are all exactly £5.0m at a well-organised defensive side. Livramento and Hall offer the most attacking upside from full-back. One or two makes sense as a mid-price clean-sheet source.

At £5.0m he is solid value. Newcastle's defensive structure gives him clean-sheet potential, and he faces enough shots to accumulate save points in the games they do concede. He is a reasonable set-and-forget option that leaves budget for a premium attacker elsewhere.

Two is typical: one £5.0m defender for clean-sheet potential plus one attacker from the £5.5-6.0m range. Avoid stacking their forwards given the three-way striker rotation, and avoid captaining Newcastle assets in all but the most favourable fixtures.
