Everything about a Man City fantasy team starts with one decision: Haaland at £15.5m, comfortably the most expensive player in the game, and whether you own him shapes literally every other pick you make. Around him sits an attacking midfield priced like a small country's GDP — Semenyo (£8.4m), Cherki (£7.8m), Doku (£7.4m) and Foden (£7.0m) — while the defence is far more reasonable: Dias (£5.5m), Gvardiol (£5.6m), O'Reilly (£6.4m) and Aït-Nouri (£5.3m).

Haaland at £15.5m is the definitive premium pick — a penalty-taking striker at the league's most dominant attacking side, capable of winning you a gameweek entirely on his own. The honest counter-argument is purely mathematical: that's roughly three budget enablers' worth of squad, so owning him means going cheap everywhere else. If you'd rather spread the risk, Semenyo at £8.4m is the premium midfield alternative, with Doku and Cherki offering similar upside for a bit less.

This is where you claw back what Haaland costs you. Rico Lewis at £4.5m is the standout — a genuine first-team defender at the bottom of the price scale. Bettinelli and Mukasa sit at the same £4.5m. Donnarumma at £5.5m is remarkably cheap for a goalkeeper of his calibre, helped by playing behind a defence that dominates possession and rarely faces real pressure. Marc Guéhi, the most interesting summer arrival, adds set-piece threat from a composed centre-back at £6.0m.

Haaland is the default armband most weeks — nobody else in the game combines his goal volume with penalty duty at a team that controls matches the way City do. Captain him home or away, against anyone. If you don't own him, Semenyo or Doku at home to a bottom-half side is the closest City alternative, though honestly you're usually better off captaining a nailed premium forward somewhere else entirely.

Cherki at £7.8m is the standout low-ownership pick — real creative quality inside a side that keeps generating chances. Elliot Anderson at £6.3m and Rodrigo at £6.5m are the mid-price differentials worth knowing, and Bouaddi at £5.5m offers minutes-based upside if he forces his way into the rotation. Echeverri and Monga at £4.9m are the deeper punts, worth tracking the moment either gets a real run of starts.

City's attacking midfield is the most heavily rotated unit in the league, full stop. Foden, Doku, Cherki, Reijnders and Semenyo are fighting over three or four spots, and any one of them can be rested without warning. Enzo Fernández and Iliman Ndiaye, arriving from Chelsea and Everton respectively, only add to a group that already had too many options. Never buy a City midfielder without checking the last two lineups first. Omar Marmoush has since moved to Tottenham, leaving Haaland as the only recognised out-and-out striker in the squad. The centre-backs rotate too — don't double up there either.
