What is a snake draft and how does it work?

Quick Answer

In a snake draft, managers pick players in order (1, 2, 3…) and then the order reverses each round (…3, 2, 1), so no single manager always picks first or last.

A snake draft is the standard way fantasy leagues divide up players fairly among managers without needing an auction or trades. Picking order is set once (say, 1 through 6), and every manager takes one pick per round.

The twist: at the end of each round, the order flips. If you picked 6th in round 1, you pick 1st in round 2 — so the manager who picked last still gets the next pick immediately, evening out the advantage of picking early. FootballDream uses this format for both Player Draft (drafting individual players) and Team Draft (drafting whole nations), supporting rooms of 2 to 8 managers.
