Rodrygo Silva de Goes was born on 9 January 2001 in Osasco, a city in the Greater São Paulo area of Brazil. His father Júnior Goes was a professional footballer who played in the lower divisions of Brazilian football, so Rodrygo grew up around the game from his earliest years. He joined Santos FC's famous academy (the same club that produced Pelé, Robinho and Neymar) as a child and made his professional debut at just 17.
