📖 Pedri: Biography & Story
Barcelona's creative heartbeat: the boy from Tenerife who became Spain's greatest midfielder.
Pedri is the midfielder who makes everything look effortless: touch, turn, pass, drive. At just 18, he arrived at Barcelona from Las Palmas in 2020 and immediately displaced established midfielders from the starting lineup. His first season saw him start 52 matches across all competitions, extraordinary for a teenager newly arrived at one of the world's biggest clubs.
He won the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award in 2021 at just 18: the same year he won the European Golden Boy. His technical ability, stamina and reading of the game drew comparisons to Andres Iniesta. But injuries became a recurring problem, serious hamstring issues in 2022 and 2023 meant Barcelona lost him for significant periods.
When fit, Pedri is arguably the finest midfielder in world football. His EURO 2024 performance confirmed his return to peak health and he was central to Spain's tournament victory. The 2026/27 La Liga season sees him at 23, the age at which most elite midfielders begin their true peak.

His extraordinary technical quality caught Barcelona's attention, who signed him in 2020 for just €5 million.
Pedri's family is from Tenerife and he has spoken warmly about the island throughout his career. He has a partner, María Amor Castañeda, whom he has been with since his Tenerife days.
