When Alejandro was nine years old, his family relocated to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and it was there that his football identity was formed. Growing up as a passionate Boca Juniors fan in Argentina, he developed the combative, direct style of play associated with Argentine street football. He moved to Madrid at 13 to join Atlético Madrid's academy before Manchester United spotted him and brought him to England at 16.
