Alexander Isak was born on 21 September 1999 in Solna, just north of Stockholm. He is of Swedish-Eritrean heritage. His father Yonas is originally from Eritrea. He grew up supporting AIK Fotboll, the club he joined as a child in the Stockholm suburb of Solna. He was recognised as an extraordinary talent in his early teens and Borussia Dortmund signed him in 2017 for €9 million when he was just 17.
