The core idea
Snake draft strategy is about planning two picks at a time. Because the order reverses each round, managers at either end of the order often make back-to-back decisions, while middle managers get steadier access to the pool.
Pick scarcity before fame
A famous forward is not automatically the best pick. If only one strong goalkeeper has an easy fixture, that goalkeeper may be more scarce than the fifth-best attacker.
Use fixture clusters
Look for matches where one team is likely to dominate possession, create chances, or keep the opponent quiet. Drafting a defender and goalkeeper from the same strong defensive fixture can be powerful, but risky if the clean sheet breaks early.
Avoid these mistakes
- Drafting by club loyalty instead of expected role.
- Ignoring whether a player is likely to start.
- Taking too many players from one volatile fixture.
- Leaving goalkeeper until everyone else has taken one.
- Forgetting that cards and goals conceded can erase attacking points.
Simple draft board method
Before the draft starts, write down three tiers for every role: safe starters, high-upside picks, and avoid-unless-desperate picks. During the timer, pick from the highest remaining tier instead of improvising under pressure.
