The anytime goalscorer pick is the easiest +100 in the Match Predictor, and also the one people overthink. You only need one player you pick to score at any point in the match. The trick is not guessing a surprise name. It is finding the player with the best chance in a few seconds, and the picker now helps with that.
What the goalscorer pick is worth
If the player you pick scores at any time during the match, you earn +100. There is no penalty for a wrong goalscorer pick, so you should always make one. It sits on top of the main predictions: match result (+100 if right, -100 if wrong), exact score (+300) and goal difference (+100 if you have the right winner and margin).
The list is sorted for you
Open the goalscorer picker on a Premier League match and the players are ranked by fantasy points across the season, with the points shown next to each name. The players at the top are the ones scoring and assisting most, which is a good proxy for who is likely to score. For other competitions where there are no fantasy points, the list ranks by goals and then assists this season. You can still search by name.
Read the injury flags
Players who are ruled out or doubtful carry a small red, orange or yellow marker, and hovering over it shows the latest news. Do not pick a flagged player unless you have a reason. A striker who has a 50% chance of playing is a coin flip before he has even had to score.
A quick way to choose
- Start with the attackers at the top of the list for the team you expect to score most.
- Check the injury flag and the confirmed lineup, which usually lands about an hour before kickoff.
- Prefer penalty takers. A penalty is the most reliable way to a goal.
- In a match you expect to be tight, the favourite's main striker is still the safest pick.
- Do not pick from both teams. One pick is all the game takes, so back the side you also predicted to win.
Pair it with a sensible score prediction
If you picked the home striker to score, your exact score should have the home side scoring at least once. It sounds obvious, but a mismatch between the scoreline and the scorer is the most common mistake in the predictor.
