What this format is
A fantasy football draft with friends is a short, private competition where each manager takes turns picking players from a defined match or gameweek pool. Unlike season-long salary-cap fantasy, a drafted player can belong to only one manager, which makes every pick feel personal.
Best setup for a first league
For a fast first game, use 2 to 4 managers, 5 or 6 players per squad, snake order, and a 60-second pick timer. This keeps the draft moving while still giving everyone enough decisions to feel strategic.
Rules to decide before inviting friends
- Squad size: smaller squads are quicker; larger squads reward deeper knowledge.
- Role limits: requiring GK, DEF, MID, and FWD prevents all-attacker drafts.
- Transfers: allow a small number after the draft so managers can react to lineups.
- Max players per team: this stops one manager from stacking the strongest club.
- Scoring: show the points table before the draft starts so nobody feels surprised later.
Why snake order works well
Snake order reverses every round. If Manager A picks first in round one, they pick last in round two. This balances access to elite players and is the simplest fair default for casual friend groups.
How FootballDream supports it
