Midfield is where most FPL seasons are won. For Gameweek 1 2026/27 you need a mix of premium creators, mid-price differentials and £4.5m enablers so the structure can flex after international breaks. Here is how to fill five midfield slots before the Friday 21 August deadline.
Premium midfielders (captain territory)
- Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) — involvement monster; captain differential if United’s opener looks soft.
- Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) — high floor from the right as Arsenal open at home vs Coventry.
- Cole Palmer (Chelsea) — penalties + set pieces keep the points floor elite.
- Martin Ødegaard / Eberechi Eze (Arsenal, £6.5m band) — creative routes if you skip a second ultra-premium.
Sweet-spot £5.5m–£6.5m
- Amad Diallo, Youri Tielemans (Manchester United)
- Iliman Ndiaye, James Garner (Everton)
- Enzo Le Fée, Granit Xhaka (Sunderland)
- Ismaïla Sarr, Brennan Johnson (Crystal Palace)
- Elliot Anderson, Jack Grealish (Manchester City) — minutes dependent
£4.5m–£5.0m enablers
- Ryan Yates (Nottingham Forest, £4.5m) — classic nailed midfielder to free funds.
- Will Hughes (Crystal Palace, £4.5m) — minutes + occasional DEFCON.
- Jack Rudoni / Matt Grimes (Coventry, £5.0m) — promoted-side creativity at a discount.
Structure tip
A common GW1 shape is 2 premiums + 2 mid-price + 1 enabler. Avoid three £4.5m mids who do not start. Cross-check every price on /fpl-prices/midfielders and each club’s FPL guide on /premier-league.
